Onynx is an alpha she-werewolf in the area around where CardMaster lives with his Magik Cardz shop.
Easy to say, is that she challenges him to take complete ownership of the area, or more like complete ownership of the town, which she has been wanting to claim as he territory.
As CM might be an alpha, he still rules over Onynx, and can order her around in the canine world, while she tries to get ownership over him.
Yes, it's a canine thing. Not many humans understand it.
Better yet if I can explain this in another way as to why they are so well known to each other, is because in the canine life at night, were arranged to be mates. But they both denied that and avoided the topic completely.
